No one told me how much fun ring shopping would be!
That was a joke 🙂
The months of recon work and google searching jewelers while Lindsay was at work or out of the house was no small task. “What is her ring size?” – I dunno. “What type of jewelry does she wear?” -none.
Unless I’m buying camera gear or coffee beans, I do not like to shop… with the exception of Costco. 🙂 So when I finally found the ring, I knew it was exactly what I wanted and what I thought she would fall in love with. Then came the ‘when?!’ My mind always seems to race off into these borderline extreme ideas, so coming up with something was sort of fun, haha. We’d had our Maui trip booked far in advance, but I didn’t consider it until a week before we went.
I had mentioned to Lindsay that I thought it would be a cool idea to wake up one morning and watch the sunrise over the ocean with fresh coffee on a cliff, if we could find one where we would be alone and enjoy ourselves. So the day after checking into The Mauian, we headed northeast around the tip of Maui at about 5:30 in the morning. Somehow we found the absolute perfect spot, with just enough time and light to heat up some water in my jetboil and grind some beans for coffee. While Lindsay sat on the cliff staring at the ocean and skyline, I rushed to set up a couple of cameras to record a time-lapse of making coffee and watching the sunrise. This is something sort of similar to what we have done while camping; so she didn’t think anything of it.
With a fresh cup of coffee in hand, and the two of us nestled up close together on the rocks staring into the skyline and, cameras rolling, this was the perfect time. Everything felt right… everything but what I wanted to say. The speech of love, happiness and our relationship that I had in my mind somehow couldn’t translate into words the way I had planned, but I definitely was able to get my point across! She did say yes (if you can’t tell from the video below). Four minutes of fun, enjoy!
